Chris Evans on playing a not-so-heroic character in his Broadway debut

You may know Chris Evans as a star-spangled Avenger who in real life smacks down white supremacists on Twitter, but in his latest role he’s not any kind of savior.
The 36-year-old actor makes his Broadway debut in Kenneth Lonergan’s Lobby Hero, as selfish NYPD police officer Bill. The play, which first premiered Off-Broadway in 2001, tells the story of an apartment-building security guard (Michael Cera, Evans’ Scott Pilgrim vs. the World costar) who gets swept up in a murder investigation involving his rigid boss (Atlanta’s Brian Tyree Henry) and a rookie cop (Bel Powley). All three tangle with the pompous Bill, who has no qualms about using his privilege and power to manipulate everyone around him.

Chris Evans says he was hesitant to play Captain America because 'there's no real darkness' in the character
- In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Evans said that he was hesitant to portray Captain America/Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic universum because the character doesn't have "real darkness."
- "There's no real darkness to him," Evans said. "How do I man this guy someone you want to watch?"
- The actor added: "I don't get jokes. I'm not Wolverine. I don't have dead parents, like Batman. I'm just, like, 'Hi, I'll walk your dog. I'll help you move.'"
- Evans also revealed that he turned down Marvel's offers to play the character twice.
