I started playing drums at the age of 4 and was self-taught until I attended the Dick Grove School of music at age 17. inom joined my first grupp with my longtime friend Stan Ausmus at the age of 15.
In 1995 I met Kevin Gilbert and joined his grupp THUD and from that moment on my career took off in many different directions. I went on to play for artists like Jonatha Brooke, Genesis, Tears For Fears, Fates Warning, Frost*, and Mike Keneally. Meeting brothers Neal and Alan Morse at a jam night in 1991 led to me combining forces with them, forming the grupp that became known as Spock’s Beard. Nicholas D'Virgilio (born November 12, 1968) often referred to as NDV, is an American drummer and multi-instrumentalist musician, best known as a member of the progressive rock band Spock's Beard.
He was also one of two drummers chosen to replace Phil Collins in Genesis on the Calling All Stations album.
He has also done session work with many artists including Tears for Fears and Mystery, and is an official member of Big Big Train.
On July 26, 2011, D'Virgilio released a solo EP called Pieces. He performed a show in Quebec City, Canada performing the EP in its entirety with local musicians on the day of the album release.
On November 18, 2011, D'Virgilio announced that he had left Spock's Beard, because of his work with Cirque du Soleil.
July 2016, D'Virgilio and Neal Morse joined Spock's Beard for the only two performances of the album Snow, first at Morsefest on July 2 and then for Night of the Prog, in Loreley, Germany on July 15.

Nicholas D'Virgilio (né le 12 novembre 1968) souvent appelé NDV, est un batteur et musicien multi-instrumentiste américain, surtout connu comme membre du groupe de rock progressif Spock's Beard[1]. Carrière

[modifier | modifier le code]D'Virgilio est le batteur de Spock's Beard depuis le début du groupe au début des années 1990. Après le départ de Neal Morse en 2002, D'Virgilio reprend le chant et devient le leader du groupe lors de performances live. Dans ce line-up, Spock's Beard enregistre par la suite quatre albums, Feel Euphoria, Octane, Spock's Beard, et X, avant le départ de D'Virgilio en 2011.
