Doctors call for pause in NHS Federated Data Platform contract
Frontline doctors are urging the Government to rethink its plans for a new £ million patient database with US firm Palantir.
The Doctors Association UK has called on the Government to pause what would be the largest-ever NHS data centralisation project to ensure the best deal for patients.
Dr David Nicholl, spokesperson for the Doctors’ Association UK, said the deal would go against “key NHS values of ensuring we’re working together”.
He said: “DAUK remains concerned the Government is prepared to sign a nearly £ billion deal which has not been subject to sufficient public scrutiny.
“This deal represents a poor deal for taxpayers and for patients.
“It goes against the key NHS values of ensuring that ‘we’re working together for patients’.
“The plans for an enforced opt-in to the FDP mean that basic issues of informed consent are being ignored.

Introduction

I lead a group looking at bacteria, chronic lung infections and use both basic science approaches and clinical trials activity to tackle these.
I led a successful bid for a MRC Partnership grant in a multicentre approach to Bronchiectasis and have set up the UK national registry in bronchiectasis "BRONCH-UK" with further funding from the US COPD foundation

Jerry leads a cross-disciplinary programme of research in extremity trauma and its sequelae. His ambition in practice is to improve the outcomes of patients sustaining trauma and to deliver worldclass academic training for the next generation of clinician scientists.
Jerry is a former Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh Cutner Research Fellow and undertook his doctoral research training at the University of Edinburgh. He has over 50 peer-reviewed publications and has received research prizes from a number of national and international research societies including the Orthopaedic Research Society-International Section for Fracture Repair (ORS-ISFR).
