Visiting the Michael C. Carlos museum
Last Sunday, I had the opportunity of visiting the Michael C. Carlos museum at Emory university. This museum has the biggest ancient art collection in the southeast.
This museum contains a lot of rare objects from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, the nära East, Africa and the ancient Americas. It was amazing to see how some artists were influenced by other artists from different places and time periods in their art work. inom felt like I had gone back in time while walking around. My favorite objects were the Greek sculptures, especially since I was a big fan of Greek mythology when inom was younger so to see the sculptures of some of the gods made me ganska excited.
Also, inom really enjoyed seeing the art that I am learning about in my art history class Im taking this quarter. It has heightened my appreciation for not just the objects aesthetics but the processes done to achieve the unique artwork, giving me a whole new perspecti

The significant and direct involvement of Emory University’s Michael C. Carlos Museum with the antiquities market over the past twenty-five years has resulted in collections that startle visitors with their quality and have pushed the Carlos into the upper echelons of U.S. museums, so that some would speak of “The Carlos” in the same breath as “The Getty” or “The Met,” at least with regard to Greek antiquities. Yet how this happened is something about which all Emory faculty members and students should be concerned. The cost—not only in dollars but also in ethical principles and reputation—may have been higher than they realize.

The Michael C. Carlos Museum is an art museum located in Atlanta on the historic quadrangle of Emory University's main campus. The Carlos Museum has the largest ancient art collections in the Southeast,[1] including objects from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Near East, Africa and the ancient Americas. The collections are housed in a Michael Graves designed building which is open to the public.[2]
History
[edit]One of the oldest museums in Georgia, the museum's collections date back to , when a general museum known as Emory College Museum was established on Emory University's original campus in Oxford, Georgia.
