Keshav Baliram Hedgewar (1 April 1889 – 21 June 1940), also known by his moniker Doctorji, was an Indian physician, Hindutva activist, and the founder of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).[3][4] Hedgewar founded the RSS in Nagpur in 1925, based on the ideology of Hindu nationalism.[5][6]
Early life
[edit]Hedgewar was born on 1 April 1889 in a Marathi[7][8][9]Deshastha Brahmin family in Nagpur, Maharashtra.[10][11][12][13] Hedgewar is a Marathi Deshastha Brahmin Surname. Deshastha Brahmins are a branch of Marathi Brahmins who lived in surrounding Kannada and Telugu districts as well.
